EndNote for Windows

Guide to setting up EndNote for Windows

PubMed

Firefox

New PubMed

  1. Search New PubMed as you normally would.
  2. Use the check boxes to mark the items you wish to export to EndNote.
    Click SAVE (underneath the search box) and change the Format to RIS, then click CREATE FILE. 
  3. Select "OPEN WITH."  use the pull down menu to select OTHER,  then navigate to the Endnote program and select it. Click OK.

Legacy PubMed

  1. Search Legacy PubMed as you normally would.
  2. Use the check boxes to mark the items you wish to export to EndNote.
    Click SEND TO (near the top, next to FILTER YOUR RESULTS) and select CITATION MANAGER, then click CREATE FILE. 
  3. Select "OPEN WITH."  use the pull down menu to select OTHER,  then navigate to the Endnote program and select it. Click OK.
  4. EndNote should download the citations.   If you have problems, look at the video below.

Chrome

New PubMed

  1. Search New PubMed as you normally would.
  2. Use the check boxes to mark the items you wish to export to EndNote.
    Click SAVE (underneath the search box) and change the Format to RIS, then click CREATE FILE.
  3. Chrome will put the file in the bottom left corner of the browser. Double click the file. Select "OPEN WITH" and navigate to the Endnote program and select it. Click 'OK
  4. EndNote should download the citations.

Legacy PubMed

  1. Search Legacy PubMed as you normally would.
  2. Use the check boxes to mark the items you wish to export to EndNote.

If you cannot download the citations into Endnote, you can follow the method in this video, which is more cumbersome, but should work.
