Firefox not opening E-Reserves link in Canvas

Sept 2022 (Nav)

ISSUE: Newer versions of Firefox have been blocking cross site cookies so it is not passing information from Canvas to the LibApps LTI. As a result, Firefox users get an error that the resource cannot be accessed and they have to go to LibGuides directly (and thus to the E-Reserves course) to access the E-Reserves item. I haven't heard any reports about embedded LibGuides or reading lists not working, but this could be happening as well.

FIX: To allow Canvas to open the E-reserves reading within Canvas a setting under ‘Enhanced Tracking Protection’ has to be changed. This is under preferences (Mac) or Tools (WIndows) in Firefox.

In Mac: see Preferences -> Privacy and Security ->

In Windows: see Tools --> Options --> Privacy and Security -->

  1. The top option is Browser Privacy and within that, Enhanced Tracking Protection.
  2. The Standard button is likely selected. Select the Custom option instead.
  3. Under the Custom option, unselect the box for Cookies
  4. Once that is done, press the “Reload all Tabs” button.
