News Notes
  • Scope
    • This policy establishes guidelines for the issuance of News Notes for the MU Libraries.
  • Purpose
    • The general purpose of News Notes is to convey official timely information pertaining to library operations, programs, and services to all employees of the MU Libraries.
    • Categories of information included in News Notes are:
      • Administrative notices
      • Notices about library buildings/branches, facilities or operational procedures
      • Announcements and reports of meetings and conferences
      • Information about visitors
      • Personnel actions, announcements of vacant positions, search committee appointments, employee interviews, and staff appointments
      • Calendar of events within the Libraries
      • Continuing education opportunities
      • MU Libraries Staff Association announcements
      • Employee recognition for significant professional or personal achievement
  • Frequency of Publication
    • News Notes will be issued on a weekly basis except for holiday periods, or in the event there is a lack of submissions.
  • Editor
    • The editor of News Notes is the MU Libraries Communications Officer.
  • Contributions
    • Items for inclusion in News Notes are encouraged from any employee of the MU Libraries.
    • Deadline for submitting items for the next issue is noon each Thursday for publication in the next day’s issue.
    • Items should be sent to the editor in completed form as they are to be posted to News Notes. If an employee wants help from the editor in composing an item, the editor must be contacted well in advance of the submission deadline.
    • Images may also be included with News Notes items and must be sent to the editor in the appropriate file format.
  • Distribution
    • An electronic copy of News Notes will be distributed to all MU Libraries employees except student assistants via the mulibstaff-l listserve. Student employee supervisors may distribute News Notes to their student assistants.
    • Retirees, former employees and other interested, non-affiliated individuals may be added to the distribution list at the editor’s and library director's discretion.
    • Hardcopies of News Notes from 1973 – 2005 are maintained in the Special Collections Department, later copies, 2008 – present are maintained on the MU Libraries website.
