Integrating Library Content in Canvas

Librarian Role

Users with this role can:

  • see course content
  • participate in Discussion Boards
  • cannot see/access student grades

Librarians can be added to courses only with consent of the instructor. After the instructor and librarian agree on the type of interaction the librarian will have with the class, the instructor can enroll the librarian in the site from the People button in the course navigation menu.

Add a Librarian in Canvas

Adding a librarian with a librarian user role in Canvas


1.    Go the “People” page and click the + People button


2.    Type the user’s username (used to loginto MyZou – sometimes different from email)
3.    Select the Librarian Role and click “Next”


4.    Canvas searches the system and retrieves the user name and login information
5.    Verify this is the person you want to add to your site
6.    Click “Add Users”


7.    You will see a notification that the user has been added to your course site
8.    Click “Done”
