Troubleshooting

The library has several options for helping you troubleshoot problems you might encounter. Sometimes there are easy ways for you to resolve a problem quickly yourself, and other times, there are go-to ways to let a librarian know the problem you are experiencing so that they can resolve it as quickly as possible. If you have additional questions regarding your troubleshooting problems, please reach out via the "Ask Us!" button to the right side of the screen.

This page shares information about encountering problems with:

  • Your MERLIN account
  • Accessing databases/journals
  • MU extension issues

Problems with the Library Catalog Account

Contact Ellis Library Checkout and Information Desk (MULibraryCircDesk@missouri.edu) if you have questions regarding:

  • Books you have checked out
  • Lost books
  • Replacement of damaged books
  • Items you have requested but have not received
  • Any other access issues

Replacement of lost or damaged books from any school or library that is not MU should be referred to the Ellis Library Checkout and Information Desk (MULibraryCircDesk@missouri.edu). Please do not replace a book before discussing the issue with the library staff because:

  • Other libraries may not accept replacements
  • MU has requirements that must be met for acceptance

Problems Accessing Databases/eJournals

Remote access to electronic resources (databases and electronic journals) is available to currently enrolled MU students/Faculty/Staff.  Access is authenticated by the user's username (MU username) and password.

Examples of issues that can affect the access:

  • firewalls that block the proxy server
  • non-MU VPNs activated
  • web browser settings, etc.

Troubleshooting information for dealing with these different issues is available here.  You can also submit a problem report form to request assistance.

MU Extension

Faculty and staff at MU Extension offices may encounter problems with accessing the online resources because of the Extension VPN.

  • Disconnect the Extension VPN to login to the Libraries' proxy server.
  • Submit a problem report form if you still experience problems.
