Sociology in the News

Newspapers and Other Media Sources

Newspapers can be an excellent source for current information of all kinds on the international, national, regional or local level. The MU Journalism Library's Find News guide has news databases available through the MU Libraries where you can do sophisticated searches and find some backfiles we have purchased.

There are thousands of  news sites of all political stripes on the internet.  Always look for information,  (e.g., About Us ), on the sponsoring organization to check for bias.  Here are several that are often cited:

Democracy NOW!

BBC News

Real Clear Politics

Politico

PolitiFact.com

Factcheck

Public Agenda

Data Resources

MU Libraries Data Services offers reference assistance to MU faculty, staff and students in the acquisition of raw datasets for use in teaching and original research.  Through our campus memberships in the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) and the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, MU affiliates may access and download any of thousands of datasets on a wide variety of topics.  We also help users access the growing collection of public use datasets on the internet.

For more information on datasets, archives and contacting the Data Services Librarian, click on Data Services.

For assistance with statistical programs contact the Social Science Statistics Center .
