Can't Find Your Industry?

There are a number of reasons you may not find the industry you are looking for (i.e., you know you need industry xxxxxx but it is not in the product). Many times RMA has information on an industry, but it is not published because the sample size was too small or there were significant questions concerning the data. (For an industry to be displayed in the Annual Statement Studies: Financial Ratio Benchmarks, there must be at least 30 valid statements submitted to RMA.) In other instances, they simply do not have the data.

Description

Published by the Risk Management Association (RMA), this provides access to industry norms (ratios and default probability/cash flow measures) for 600+ industries by year, asset range and region. 735 industry codes appear in the current Financial Benchmark Ratios, and 669 are represented in the Industry Default Probabilities.

Dates of coverage:  2003-2004 - present

Access via the MU Libraries' homepage, http://library.missouri.edu.  Select the "Databases" tab.

The Financial Ratio Benchmarks are derived directly from 285,000 statements of financial institutions’ borrowers and prospects. These financial statements come directly to RMA from its member institutions, which get their data directly from the customer.

The Industry Default Probabilities and Cash Flow Measures contain expected default frequency estimates, cash flow measures, and change-in-financial-position information for 686 industries. They bring together the power of Moody’s KMV RiskCalc® for private companies and the Statement Studies database to provide distribution statistics on one-year and five-year expected default frequency estimates by industry. These benchmarks add substantial value to the critical analysis of cash flow for private companies.

Most of the information above was taken from the RMA's website.
