Carpentries Workshops

Software Carpentry aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic research computing skills. Hands-on workshops will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.

Some of the specific tools covered (no prior experience necessary) include:

  • Bash/Unix shell
  • Git
  • Python
  • R
  • Data Organization with Spreadsheets
  • Data Cleaning with OpenRefine

Other Workshops

The Libraries also offers a menu of On-Demand Workshops, including topics on Data Management Planning, Data Organization, Data Cleaning (inspired by Data Carpentries curriculum), "nuts and bolts" of file and data management, and more. If you have a group of learners to fill one of these dedicated workshops, please complete our workshop request form and we'll get back to you right away.
