Staff Development Incentive Program

Information about the staff development program opportunities available for MU Libraries' staff. This guide maintained by the Staff Development Committee.

Selecting a Program

The opportunities listed on this page are suggestions, not requirements or the only opportunities available.

If you identify an opportunity not listed on this page, contact Sheryl Cullina to verify it will qualify for a raffle ticket.

myLearn Online Courses & Videos

The University of Missouri System offers the SkillSoft MyLearn Online Courses program to all UM employees.

Access is available via myHR.

  • Once logged in, click on MU Libraries Staff Development to see a list of courses, videos and ebooks that might be useful.
  • Other items are available in MyLearn.
    • Click on Browse the Library and select a category to see the titles available.

Some courses and videos have been identified that might be useful to many employees.  These have been added to the MU Libraries Staff Development folder so that they are easy to find.  However, you can review the other items available within MyLearn to identify others of interest.

Note that courses or videos must be a minimum of 30 minutes in length to qualify for a raffle ticket.

Examples of available courses:

  • Communication challenges: navigating choppy waters
  • Time management: ready, set….FOCUS!
  • Managing from within: self-empowerment
  • Diversity on the job: the importance of diversity and the changing workplace

MU Division of IT

The Division of IT offers many classes in the use of various software available on campus (Excel, Photoshop, HTML, etc.). 

They offer classes that meet in person and online.

Schedules change every semester, so check the DoIT training site for the most up-to-date schedule.

Lynda.com Online Tutorials

The Daniel Boone Regional Library offers access to Lynda.com, a collection of video tutorials on technology skills, creative techniques, business strategies and other subject areas.  Classes are taught by experts and are set up so you can learn at your own pace.

Login with your DBRL card number and PIN.

The library card is free for residents of Boone and Callaway County.  You can submit an online request form, mail a form or request it in person.  Details are available under Library Card FAQs.

Fridays@the Libraries

MU Librarians present on various topics every Friday at 1:00 pm during the fall and spring semesters.

A link to the schedule for Fall 2017 will be posted when it becomes available.

MU Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Office

The MU Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Office offers a number of online and in-person training sessions.

You can check their website for descriptions and a schedule.  We will also post announcements in News Notes and/or to the MULIBSTAFF list.

Conferences

Attendance at a conference will qualify for 1 raffle ticket.

Many online conferences are available throughout the year.
