Air Navigational Maps

Global Navigation Charts and Jet Navigation Charts

These are both located in the same drawer under GNC and JNC. In Map cabinet 4, 1st drawer.

For the Global Navigation Charts, there are only a few that date from 1978 and 1995. The more updated digital copies of these maps are now Raster Navigation Charts (RNC). Sudoc D5.323:GNC [chart #]

The Jet Navigation Charts, JNC, are dated up untill 1996. These are ariel navigational maps for jets. There are digital copies of the phyiscal JNC's in the Texas PCL Map Room (linked below). There are also digital copies of VFR Terminal Area Raster Aeronautical Charts of Airports via the FAA's website, which is similar enough to the JNCs. Sudoc D 5.354:JC [Chart #]

  • Raster Navigational Charts
NOAA Raster Navigational Charts (NOAA RNC®) are full-color digital images of NOAA's entire suite of paper charts. NOAA provides weekly updates to the RNCs, which are available for free on this site in the BSB format. NOAA RNC® files are official data that can be used in many types of electronic charting systems, including Raster Chart Display Systems (RCDS) and Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS)
  • VFR Terminal Area Raster Aeronautic Map
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Terminal Area Raster Chart series is designed to meet the needs of users who require georeferenced raster images of FAA Visual Flight Rules.

Airport Obstruction Ports, Operational Navigation Charts, and Tactical Navigation (Pilotage) Chart

Airport Obstruction Ports (OC/AOC) are maps about obstructional objects in an airport and the surrounding area. The date range for the phyiscal copies are the late 80's and the 90's. The NGS Aeronautical Survey has digital and updated copies of the maps in DNG format. There is a request to download a viewer in order to use the informaiton. The AOC provides data for computing maximum take-off and landing weights, for establishing instrument approach and departure procedures, for engineering studies relative to obstruction clearance and improvements in airport facilities. Operational Navigational Charts (ONC) are a series of worldwide small-scale (1:1,000,000) aeronautical charts that provide topographic information for air navigation. They are designed for medium-altitude, high-speed visual and radar navigation and are also used for operational planning and intelligence briefings. The global information available from the ONCs enables scientists to study the state of the global biosphere and to perform environmental monitoring, planning and crisis management, data intercomparison, and model testing. The more current digital maps are relabel as ENC, eletronic navigation charts. Map Cabinet 4, Sudoc D 5.354:ONC [Chart #]

Tactical Navigation Charts, also known as the Tactical Pilotage Charts (TPC), cover land areas at standard size for high altitude aircraft navigation. These, and some of the ONC's, are the only options for topographical maps of certain areas. The information on the map includes visual and radio aids to navigation, airports, airwats, restricted areas, and other important data.Map cabinet 4, drawers 12-15.  Sudoc D 5.354:TCP [chart #]

  • NGS Airport Obstruction Charts
The Airport Obstruction Chart (AOC) is a 1:12,000 scale graphic (1:18,000 scale graphic for Denver International DEN 9077) depicting Federal Aviation Regulations Part 77 surfaces, a representation of objects that penetrate these surfaces, runway, taxiway, and ramp areas, navigational aids, prominent airport buildings, plus a selection of roads and other planimetric detail in the airport vicinity. A Microstation viewer must be downloaded in order to view the files.
  • Electronic Navigation Chart (ENC)
NOAA Electronic Navigational Charts (NOAA ENC®) are vector data sets that represent NOAA's newest and most powerful electronic charting product. NOAA ENCs conform with the International Hydrographic Office (IHO) S-57 international exchange format, comply with the IHO ENC Product Specification, and are provided with incremental updates that supply Notice to Mariners corrections and other critical changes. NOAA ENCs and updates are available for free download.
