Finding Patents in Scifinder (Chemical Abstracts)

When you first land in SciFinder Chemical Abstracts (after sign-on), you'll notice a menu on the left hand side of the screen that includes a link to a form that is exclusively for patent searching: 

Assignee vs Inventor

This form is useful if you already have some basic information, but if you want to search patents by topic, choose the research topic link and then limit your results to patents. This is done by clicking the drop-down menu on the left hand side of the results screen and then selecting document type:

Once you are looking at a patent record, select 'link to other sources' to view links to full text records that are freely available on the web (ignore the PatentPak link--this is not a service that the Libraries subscribe to):
