J. Marion Sims operated on enslaved Black women without anesthesia, perfecting his techniques on them before opening a clinic and operating on white women with anesthesia. These are his letters from 1858-59 and 1880-81.

The Hospital Herald was the official organ of the Association of Colored Physicians of South Carolina, edited by Dr. Alonzo C. McClennan, surgeon in charge of the Hospital and Training School for Nurses at 135 Cannon Street, Charleston, S.C. Dr. McClennan edited the Hospital Herald, a monthly journal devoted to hospital work, nurse training, and domestic and public hygiene.

Publication produced by early 20th century Black organizations in conjunction with the U.S. Public Health Service.

Dr. Crawford was Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center from 1977-2006. He is one of the nation's foremost authorities on video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. He became the first African American president of the Scoliosis Society.
