Using Subject Terms 

To find a video, book, or article relevant to your creative practice and research, you can search by subject, rather than just by keyword. Subject headings are tags that libraries assigns to all the books about a particular topic to make those materials easier to find. .

Use Filter by Format to filter the results depending on which you want (e.g. video, book, academic journal, etc.)

Examples of Subject Headings to try browsing with:

Motion pictures -- Czech Republic
French language films
Feature films -- Germany (East)
Feature films -- Germany (West)
Motion pictures -- Germany -- History -- 20th century
German language films
War films; Great Britain
Feature films -- Italy

How to play DVDs

Many films at Ellis and other MU Libraries are in DVD format. Playing them is not difficult.

  • Checkout an External DVD drive (to play a video with your computer/laptop)
  • View the complete list of playback and projecting equipment available to checkout from the Libraries: Projectors, Media Players, & Readers
  • The Journalism also has playback equipment for in-Library use only: Media Players & Readers
