Finding Books

  • Search Discover@MU (blue box search on library.missouri.edu). Then limit to UM Books (left sidebar) and refine search as needed.
  • We will fetch your books, but if you find books yourself, you may find more books.
  • Expand book search to MOBIUS for more books that can be sent to you at MU.
  • You can only use ebooks if they have an MU online access link.
  • Always check the book's location, note its call number, and check that it is not checked out.

If you click on a book's title, you will usually see the book's table of contents.

Library of Congress Subject Headings

MU Libraries uses the Library of Congress' schema for organizing materials. Materials pertaining to WWI, then, should be found under the Subject Heading: World War, 1914-1918. Do not omit the comma after "War."  If unsuccessful, you may try the following alternative subject headings in your search, as provided by the LOC:

  • us:  European War, 1914-1918
  • us:  First World War, 1914-1918
  • us:  Great War, 1914-1918
  • us:  World War 1, 1914-1918
  • us:  World War I, 1914-1918
  • us:  World War One, 1914-1918
  • us:  WW I (World War, 1914-1918)
  • us:  WWI (World War, 1914-1918)
