VM-1 & VM-2 Resource Guide

Library resources for first- and second-year veterinary students.

Basics of Zalk Veterinary Medical Library

First and foremost, we're here to help you succeed in vet school! Please don't hesitate to ask us a question. Come ask us at the circulation desk or email us anytime!

Second, there is A LOT of information in this guide and changes can happen frequently. I recommend bookmarking this page and referring back as needed.

A few key reminders:

  • We are open 24/7 for current CVM affiliates via badge/ID card reader. (Mobile IDs do not yet work with outside doors; it may be awhile!)
  • The library is staffed Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
  • Covered drinks and snacks are allowed, but keep it clean! No meals or messy food. We reserve the right to ask you to eat items in the cafeteria.
  • Shhhhh! No talking or group work. Currently, the library is the only designated quiet place in the building. Respect your classmates' need for a quiet study area!
  • Service animals only -- no pets.
  • Don't leave your stuff unattended.

Most importantly

  • Respect one another and the library ðŸ˜Š

FAQ's

Q: Why are reserve books only for 2 hours?

A: Reserve items are designed to be used as quick reference by you AND your classmates. A 2-hour loan lets everyone have equal access. Reserve books are not meant to be a replacement for buying the book.

Q: Do you have e-books?

A: Yep! And we're getting more all the time! MOST of your reserves should be on eBook. Also, check out our guide to veterinary eBooks.

Q: I want a book from Ellis Library. How do I get it? What about a book from UMKC?

A: Find the book you want in the UM libraries' catalog (Discover@MU). This is a combined library catalog for all 4 UM campuses. Click on the Request button. Log in with your MU username and choose the Veterinary Library as your pick-up location (or any library that is convenient for you).

Q: I need a journal article that's in print at the vet library. How do I get it?

A: You are welcome to come in and check out the journal or make a photocopy/scan. If you prefer, you can Request a Copy and we'll scan and send it to you (for free!).

Q: There's a journal article I need, but MU doesn't have it. How do I get it?

A: Use InterLibrary Loan! We'll get the article from another library and send it to you electronically. (Again, free!)
