First and foremost, we're here to help you succeed in vet school! Please don't hesitate to ask us a question. Come ask us at the circulation desk or email us anytime!
Second, there is A LOT of information in this guide and changes can happen frequently. I recommend bookmarking this page and referring back as needed.
A few key reminders:
Most importantly:
Main Page for the Zalk Veterinary Medical Library: http://vetmedlibrary.missouri.edu
How to access our online resources:
Check out materials with your CVM badge: Your badge is your library card at all the University Libraries.
Off-campus access with VPN or your PawPrint: You can get to our online databases, journals, and books from anywhere in the world. Use the MU VPN or start from a Library page and enter your PawPrint (first part of your email address and your email password) when you reach the Libraries Proxy server. More information on off-campus access.
Scanning/Photocopying: Scanning is free! Scan and send to email or USB. Contact a staff member for photocopy codes. *REMINDER: Respect the intellectual property rights of others; wholesale photocopying or scanning of books is a violation of copyright. Why you should care
Printing: The CVM-IT computers and the stand-up computers near the entrance all print to the CVM printers, currently located in Dogwood Cafe. Use your PrintQuota.
We are part of the University Libraries. Zalk Veterinary Medical Library is one of nine campus libraries. You can request that books and bound journals from other libraries be sent to Zalk Library for pick-up. You can return items from other campus libraries here, and we'll send them back for you.
Need an article from our print collection? Make a request through FindIt@MU or email us at vetlib@missouri.edu

Q: Why are reserve books only for 2 hours?
A: Reserve items are designed to be used as quick reference by you AND your classmates. A 2-hour loan lets everyone have equal access. Reserve books are not meant to be a replacement for buying the book.
Q: Do you have e-books?
A: Yep! And we're getting more all the time! MOST of your reserves should be on eBook. Also, check out our guide to veterinary eBooks.
Q: I want a book from Ellis Library. How do I get it? What about a book from UMKC?
A: Find the book you want in the UM libraries' catalog (Discover@MU). This is a combined library catalog for all 4 UM campuses. Click on the Request button. Log in with your MU username and choose the Veterinary Library as your pick-up location (or any library that is convenient for you).
Q: I need a journal article that's in print at the vet library. How do I get it?
A: You are welcome to come in and check out the journal or make a photocopy/scan. If you prefer, you can Request a Copy and we'll scan and send it to you (for free!).
Q: There's a journal article I need, but MU doesn't have it. How do I get it?
A: Use InterLibrary Loan! We'll get the article from another library and send it to you electronically. (Again, free!)
