Finding Books: the Library Catalog and Beyond

  • If looking for books about a person, use the person's name in a subject search - last name first:
    • X, Malcolm
    • Simone, Nina
  • Names of political, social and religious organizations often have their own subject headings:
    • black panthers
    • african methodist episcopal church
    • brotherhood of sleeping car porters
    • alpha phi alpha fraternity
  • Remember that you can limit searches to books published within a certain time period
  • If a book is unavailable (either not owned or checked out) in the MU Libraries you can request it from another library via MOBIUS.
  • You can also use MOBIUS to find books we don't own at MU, such as those held at religious colleges

  • If a book is available in Worldcat but not MERLIN or MOBIUS, you can request it via ILL@MU.

Finding Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles
