CQ Researcher provides in-depth weekly reports on current and controversial issues. After you click on the link simply preform a quick search in the box at the top of the screen. Keep in mind this site cover broad issues so here it is best to use broad terms when searching (i.e. "gun control", "health care", etc.). On a CQ Researcher report you will find a general outline of the topic as well as statistics, a pro/con discussion, and many references for further research.
publicagenda.org is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that is freely available on the open web. Like CQ Researcher it provides detailed reports on social issues and US domestic policy. After clicking the link just look for the tabs that say "Issue Guides" and "Research Studies" towards the top of the screen.
