Free Scholarly Resources: Resources for Developing Countries

HINARI, established by the World Health Organization, enables developing countries to gain access to more than 7,000 biomedical and health journals. A list of eligible countries can be found at: http://www.who.int/hinari/eligibility/en/.

Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE), an international public-private consortium coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Yale University, and leading science and technology publishers, enables developing countries to gain access to more than 2,000 journals in the field of environmental science.

Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture (AGORA), established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in collaboration with major publishers in the field, offers access to more than 1,200 journals in the fields of food, agriculture, environmental science and related social sciences. JSTOR provides free or low cost access to institutions in Africa and other developing nations via the African Access Initiative and the Developing Nations Access Initiative.

eJDS distributes physics and mathematics articles via email, free of cost, to individual scientists in developing or low income countries who do not have access to sufficient bandwidth to download material from the Internet and/or cannot afford the connection.
