Veterinary Specialty Boards Reading Lists

American Board of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ABVO) Reading List

This is only a convenience copy of the ABVO reading list to help find copies of reading materials in local libraries. It does not replace the official ABVO reading list. Candidates are responsible for ensuring they use the latest ABVO reading list.

ABVO

"A list of journals and textbooks from which questions are generated is posted on the ABVO website, under the heading ABVO Resident Reading List. All journal-based questions are from articles published up to seven calendar years prior to the year of the examination. For the purposes of the 2024 examination, the publication date of a journal article is considered the date the article appeared in print, not the date of issue (DOI). (e.g., questions for the 2024 exam will be taken from manuscripts with a publication date from January 2017 through December 2023)."

Journals

"ABVO residents are responsible for knowing the published literature for the seven years prior to the year of their examination. For the 2024 examination, material is taken from manuscripts with a publication date from January 2018 through December 2024. The publication date for the purposes of the ABVO Exam, is defined as the first date that the manuscript is available in its online form (DOI or “ePub ahead of print). Please note that this is a change from previous years’ designations.

In general, questions on the Multiple Choice (MC) examination will not be derived from case reports that involve single animals, although images from these case reports may appear in the Image Recognition (IR) examination."

Supplemental Journals

"Supplemental questions may be derived from pertinent articles that appear in the journals below."
