There are ways to focus your catalog search that can be used to find both published histories and contemporary reports on conditions in a particular county, town, or city. This method works in any multi-line search - in Discover@MU, in MOBIUS, and in the Worldcat database. When searching for places in states other than Missouri, it may be best to search the Worldcat database.
On the first search line, use one of these formulas:
For counties:
County Name (State abbreviation.) - choose field "SU: Subject Terms"
AND
social OR economic OR politic* OR histor* - choose field "SU: Subject Terms"
For cities:
City Name (State abbreviation.) - choose field "SU: Subject Terms"
AND
social OR economic OR politic* OR histor* - choose field "SU: Subject Terms"
