Sylvia Harris

*A single mother of three, Sylvia was crippled with bipolar depression, until she discovered the calming effect of horses.  This revelation ultimately enabled her to manage her illness and triumph as a champion jockey horse racer.
*She became the first African American woman in Chicago racing history to win a race and only the second in U.S. history.
