SW 1115: Introduction to Social Work and Social Welfare: Finding Books

Google Books

Why use Google Books?

Google Books searches the full-text of books.  It lets you search within the text of books--you can see the table of contents, index or a portion of the contents of the book.  You can then locate the book in a nearby library.

Finding Books

To find books, you have several options beyond the "Books & Media tab found on the MU Libraries homepage:

  • Library Catalog
Use the Library Catalog to find books, journals and other materials at MU and the other campuses of the University of Missouri.  If we don't have the book here in Columbia, or if our copy is checked out, you can request it from another UM library by searching "All Merlin."  Books typically arrive at MU within 2-3 working days.
  • MOBIUS Catalog
If the book you need is not available through MERLIN, you can request it from MOBIUS - the statewide network of Missouri college and university libraries.  Books requested from other MOBIUS Librariesusually arrive at MU in 2-3 working days.
  • InterLibrary Loan
If the book you need is not available through MERLIN or MOBIUS, you can request it through ILL (InterLibrary Loan) or WorldCat, an international catalog.
  • WorldCat
An international catalog containing over 95 million records of books, serials, web resources and other materials held in libraries worldwide.
  • HathiTrust Digital Library
Access to the full text and/or cataloging records of millions of books online
  • The Online Books Page
