Introduction

McAlester Hall

Research
Research in Psychological Sciences aims to understand the mind, behavior, and mental health. Research achievements in the department include:

  • In the past six years, our faculty members have published more than 400 scientific papers, nearly 100 book chapters, and 12 books.
  • Our faculty members have been cited in the scientific literature more than 10,000 times.
  • Our faculty members have been awarded over $15 million of direct research support in the last five years. At present, around 70% of the faculty members in our department have funded external grants.
  • Our programs are ranked consistently in the top 50 among psychology departments nationwide.
  • We have an NIH funded training grant for graduate students in addictions. Additionally, several students, with department support, have been awarded their own NIH NRSA predoctoral grants.

Teaching
The Department excels in undergraduate and graduate teaching. We serve about 1,000 majors and 100 graduate students. Our students come from all over the world. Many of our faculty are award-winning instructors. We also offer a specialized program to teach graduate students how to teach their own class.

Service
The Department runs the Psychological Services Clinic which provides mental health therapy for the community. Several of our faculty and staff serve on federal funding panels, federal advisory panels, executive boards of APA divisions, and national and international editorial boards.  --From the Psychological Sciences website
