MERLIN Server Migration - March 30, 2017:  

the Library Catalog Unavailable

Due to system maintenance, the MERLIN Library Catalog will not be available on Thursday, March 30, 2017.

You can still check out books and reserve items, as well as submit interlibrary loan requests.  The information below details what services are affected.

Questions about Finding and Checking Out Books

Can I still see what books the MU Libraries have?

  • Yes.  Search MOBIUS, the catalog for Missouri academic institutions.  
  1. Find a book of interest
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the record to see the list of locations that own the book, the call number and the status.
  • NOTE: the status may be incorrect if a book is checked out during the period that MERLIN is down.

Can I check out books from the MU Libraries while MERLIN is down?

  • Yes. 

Can I request books from the other libraries listed in MOBIUS/Prospector?

  • No.  Requests cannot be processed while MERLIN is down.

Can I place a hold on a book in the MU Libraries?

  • No.  You cannot place a hold/request for a book in the UM LIBRARIES CATALOG while the system is down.

Can I use the self-checkout machine to check out books while MERLIN is down?

  • No.

Can I renew books that I have checked out?

  • No.  We will be unable to renew books until MERLIN is restored.

Can I request a book from UMLD?

  • No.  You will be unable to request books from the UMLD until MERLIN is restored.

Search MOBIUS while MERLIN is unavailable.

MOBIUS includes records for the MU Libraries' holdings, as well as those for other academic institutions in Missouri.

  1. Find a book of interest
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the record to see:
  • list of locations that own the book
  • the call number
  • the status to check if a copy is available at MU.

NOTE:

  • The status of the book at MU may be incorrect if a book is checked out during the period that MERLIN is down.

Questions about Reserves Materials

Can I check out books on reserves?

  • Yes
  • NOTE: the system will not display if an item has been checked out during this period.

Can I check out equipment on reserve?

  • Yes
  • NOTE: the system will not display if an item has been checked out during this period.

Will access to E-Reserves be affected?

  • You will be able to login to E-Reserves.

Other Questions

Will I be charged a fine for books due while MERLIN is down?

  • No, not for items due that day.  However, you can call the Ellis Library Circulation Desk (573-882-3362) if you have questions.

Can I still submit interlibrary loan requests?

  • Yes.  Requests for items not available in the UM LIBRARIES CATALOG/MOBIUS/Prospector can be submitted via the interlibrary loan form.

Can I check my MERLIN account?

  • No.  While MERLIN is down, you cannot access your MERLIN account.

What do I do if I have questions about a library fine?

Can I still access databases and ejournals?

  • Yes, access to these resources will not be affected.
