Mizzou Student Health & Well-Being

As a Mizzou law student you will have access to all the resources provided by Mizzou's Student Health & Well-Being. Below is a quick glance of some resources available to you. You are encouraged to explore Mizzou's Student Health & Well-Being webpage for additional and up to date information. 

  • Crisis Mental Health Care:  If you experience a life-threatening or severe emergency call 911 immediately. If you experience mental or emotional distress beyond what you can manage safely outside of business hours, call 573-882-6601 at any time.  Additional options: 

    • Mental Health Crisis Hotline (Burrell Behavioral Health): 1-800-395-2132

    • Mid-Missouri Crisis Line: 1-888-761-4357
      Columbia: 573-445-5035

    • Suicide Prevention Hotline: 988

    • Vet2Vet: Veterans Crisis Hotline: 988, followed by 1 when prompted

    • United Way 211: From a cell phone dial 2-1-1 or 1-800-427-4626

  • Brief Individual Counseling: "Student Health and Well-Being offers individual therapy to provide you with an opportunity to explore your personal concerns one-to-one with a therapist."

  • Group Counseling and Skills Classes: "Group therapy is a powerful way to address a wide array of issues that are a part of a college student’s reality. " Register on Engage

  • Psychiatric/medication management care   

  • 24/7 Nurse Line: "If you have an urgent need, we encourage you to call the 24/7 nurse line (573-882-7481) for advice about how to care for an illness or injury at home or to receive guidance about whether and how soon you should see a health care provider."       

  • Medical Care Appointments: Calling ahead is required, same day appointments are usually available, 573-882-7481. "We can do everything your hometown primary care doctor does — including treatment of acute illnesses and injuries, lacerations, screening for behavioral health issues, and health maintenance and preventive services."

  • Insurance Information and Guidance  

  • Wellness Services and Resources: A variety of resources covering topics like coping with loss, understanding drug and alcohol use, building strong connections, etc. 

  • Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention (RSVP) Center"(RSVP) Center aims to promote social change on campus and in the community by serving students, faculty and staff through our education, prevention and response efforts." Confidential services are available.           

  • Student Resource Centers: Including the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center (GOBCC), LGBTQ Resource Center, Multicultural Center (MCC), and the MU Women’s Center. 

Missouri Lawyers' Assistance Program

"The Missouri Lawyers' Assistance Program is a professional, confidential counseling program for members of The Missouri Bar, immediate family members who reside with them, and law students. Through a variety of free services, MOLAP helps individuals overcome personal concerns such as substance use, depression, stress and burnout."

Call 1-800-688-7859 for support or sign up for a session with the counselor that visits Mizzou Law once a month. Sessions are free.

Getting Connected To Your Neighborhood & City

  • Visit Columbia MO: The official Columbia, MO website guide to restaurants, parks, attractions, and accommodations. 
  • City of Columbia Missouri- Official Government Website
  • The Columbia Missourian: Local news press, has been covering the news for 114 years and trains Mizzou students to be journalists. 
  • Columbia Daily Tribune: Local news press.
  • KOMU 8 News: Local news source. "KOMU 8 is the only major network affiliate in the United States that acts as a university-owned commercial television station utilizing its newsroom as a working lab for students." 
  • ABC 17 News: Local news source.
  • KRCG 13 News: Local news source.
  • KBIA: "NPR station for mid-Missouri news and culture. Local news, agricultural news, health news, and more."
  • Show Me Mizzou: Mizzou news, stories, and updates
  • Impact Como: Website, directory, and guide to the nonprofit organizations in Columbia, MO. Guide includes resources for animals, arts and culture, community, education, health, human services, and youth and children.

Self-Care

  • MizzouRec: Fitness classes, workout equipment, swimming pool, basketball courts, etc. 
  • Wellness Room in Hulston Hall Room 104A: A place to relax and where counselors from MOLAP offer free counseling services to Mizzou Law students. 
  • There is a student lounge and kitchen in the sub plaza (near the fireplace lounge) with refrigerators, microwaves, ice machine, vending machines, etc. for law student use. The Mizzou Student Center also offers a variety of dining options and has some microwaves. 
  • All Gender Restrooms are located throughout the Law Library.
