Finding a Book Whose Title You Already Know
Using the Books & Media tab of the search on the library homepage, library.missouri.edu:
Change the search from Topic to Title.Make sure MU Catalog is selected.
Finding Books On Topics
In the Books & Media tab, leave the dropdown menu set to "Topic."
You can specify that a word be found in the subject of the book by using s:, e.g.,
s:salt and s:history
s:fruit and s:social
Companies also make good subject headings, but for companies whose names have more than one word, use quotation marks, e.g., s:"United Fruit Company"
If you search the phrase "farm to table" you will find some food safety brochures from the USDA, as well as several interesting general books.
You can combine synonyms with "or" - e.g., s:fish* and (ecolog* or environment*)
Book Not Available?
If you use the "Looking For..." A Specific Book link, you'll be routed automatically to the other campus' library catalogs, and if the book is unavailable there, to the statewide MOBIUS catalog. If the book is unavailable in MOBIUS you may still request it via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
If you find a book in Search & Find or the Classic Catalog (MERLIN) and it is unavailable (i.e. "DUE 5-18-2015"), you can expand your search out to MOBIUS and request that the book be sent from another Missouri library.
