Staff Development Committee

  • Scope of Policy
    • This policy defines the composition and functions of the MU Libraries Staff Development Committee.
  • Committee Charge
    • The Committee will enhance the Libraries’ capacity to meet user needs by fostering a learning environment and an environment in which we work collegially in innovation, problem solving, decision making, and implementation; encourage lifelong individual development; and improve library staff’s potential for advancement and promotion.
    • The Committee will serve as an advisory committee to the Library HR Manager in all areas of staff development and continuing education for the MU Libraries staff. 
    • The Committee will work with the Library HR Manager to plan and develop activities and training to improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of library staff.
  • Composition
    • The Staff Development Committee will consist of six staff, with a minimum of two academic staff and two support staff.
  • Method of Appointment
    • The committee will be a standing committee.
    • The Director of Libraries will call for volunteers to serve on the Committee.
    • Appointments will be staggered to assure continuity.
  • Terms of Appointment
    • Appointments will be made for two-year terms.
    • Terms of service will be staggered with one to two librarians and one to two support staff members replaced one year, and the remaining librarian and support staff member replaced the following year.
    • Appointments will be effective September 1 of each year.
  • Vacancies
    • Vacancies on the committee will be filled by the Director of Libraries upon recommendation of the Chairperson of the Committee.
