Committee Charge

  • The Instruction Committee is charged with identifying needs and proposing actions essential to ensuring that the University of Missouri Libraries provide effective instructional services.
  • The Instruction Committee will serve as an advisory committee to the Head of Instructional Services on matters regarding:
    • Instructional policies (including but not limited to the University Libraries' Information Literacy Plan)
    • Space and technology needs at all libraries
    • Professional development needs and opportunities in the area of instruction for librarians, staff, and graduate assistants
    • Coordination of open workshops offered at all libraries
    • Best practices for the delivery and assessment of face-to-face and virtual instruction
    • Other issues brought to the committee by the Head of Instructional Services, other committee members, or the Library Management Team.
  • The Instruction Committee is not a working group tasked with the creation of instructional support materials. When appropriate, the Instruction Committee can request the creation of such materials by the RAIS Division's Instruction Department and/or ad hoc project teams.
  • The Instruction Committee will report regularly to the Associate University Librarian for Research, Access, and Instructional Services. The Instruction Committee will also establish and maintain contact with other library committees responsible for matters related to those under consideration by the Instruction Committee (e.g., the Space Planning Committee, Assessment Committee, etc.).
  • Minutes will be shared in NewsNotes.

 

Composition

  • The Instruction Committee will consist of four permanent appointments and four rotating appointments:
    • Head of Instructional Services (chair; permanent)
    • E-Learning Librarian (permanent)
    • HSL Education Librarian (permanent)
    • Communications Director (ex officio; permanent)
    • Special Collections Librarian or Reference Archivist (rotating)
    • Specialized Library Head (rotating)
    • RAIS Librarian (rotating)
    • Staff member (rotating)

 

Method of Appointment

  • The committee will be a standing committee.
  • The University Libraries' HR Manager will call for volunteers from appropriate divisions and departments to serve on the committee.
  • Appointments will be staggered to assure continuity.

 

Terms of Appointment

  • Rotating appointments will be made for two-year terms.
  • Terms of service will be staggered with the Special Collections Librarian or Reference Archivist and RAIS Librarian replaced one year, and the Specialized Library Head and Staff member replaced the following year.
  • Appointments will be effective July 1 of each year.

 

Vacancies

  • Vacancies on the committee will be filled by the appropriate Division Head upon recommendation of the Head of Instructional Services.
