Charge and Committee Composition

  • Committee Charge
    • The Diversity Committee will develop and facilitate ways for the MU Libraries to bring attention to the value of diversity.
    • The Diversity Committee will create ways for MU Libraries personnel to become more aware of the ethnic and cultural diversity of the population the Libraries serves.
    • The Diversity Committee will engage the MU Libraries personnel in respecting and responding to the diversity manifested by the personnel of the MU Libraries.
    • The Diversity Committee will serve as a resource for issues and developments in diversity awareness.
    • The Diversity Committee will establish and maintain contacts with other groups engaged in the promotion of diversity awareness within the University of Missouri and within the community of Columbia, Missouri.
    • The Diversity Committee will establish and maintain contacts with other groups engaged in the promotion of diversity awareness in the library profession on a local, state and national level.
    • The Diversity Committee will actively seek input from the personnel of the MU Libraries.
  • Composition
    • This standing committee will consist of five to seven members representing all levels of full-time staff.
  • Method of Appointment
    • Each Spring, the Director of Libraries will call for volunteers to serve on the Diversity Committee.
  • Terms of Appointment
    • The normal appointment will be for two years, with membership staggered to provide for continuity.
    • Appointments will be effective June 1 of each year.
    • Members may be reappointed.
  • Vacancies
    • Vacancies will be filled by the Director of Libraries upon recommendation of the Diversity Committee Chair.
