Library Liaison Toolkit

Gifts & Donations

As noted in the Libraries Policy on Acquiring Value Gift Material, we certainly welcome donations of materials, but not all are appropriate to our collection. The policy details aspects to consider in deciding whether to receive a donation, but maintains some flexibility.

Jennifer Walker, coordinates the receipt of materials and letters of acknowledgment to donors. Useful information for him to have includes:

Phone number
Type of materials
Approx. number of materials (1 box, 20 boxes, etc.)

The Libraries cannot provide an appraisal of value for donations received.

Caring for (potential) Donors

Matt Gaunt is the Libraries' development officer and works most closely with donors.

Selectors are encouraged to maintain wish-lists of desired materials and share these with Matt.

Selectors are also encouraged to write periodic thank you notes to founders of endowment funds reporting on the impact of those donations.

Donors can be acknowledged in bookplates, notes in catalog records and database descriptions, and in some cases in banners within databases.
