Citation Managers do just that, they manage your citations. They will help you keep track of your citations, link them to PDFs, and allow you to convert the citation into thousands of different styles.
No one citation manager is perfect and will do everything you want, but you should be able to find one that works for you and your discipline.
The Library offers classes on Endnote and Zotero.
Endnote, a commercial product, is free to MU students.
Visit the software sales section on DoIT's website to purchase a copy.
Zotero is free software that resides in the Firefox browser.
Go to http://zotero.org to download a copy. Each has strengths and weaknesses. Here is a comparison of the two.
There is also another citation manager, Mendeley, which is free and has some very useful social (academic) media capabilities.
THE BEST TIME TO LEARN HOW TO USE A CITATION MANAGER IS BEFORE YOU WRITE YOUR THESIS OR DISSERTATION.
