Court Rules: Federal and Missouri: Missouri Rules

descriptions, locations and links to the most important resources for the rules guiding Federal and Missouri State Court proceedings / Last updated by Annaleigh Hobbs, JD '25

Overview

State court rules are often published as part of a state's statutory code.  Missouri state court rules are enacted and modified by order of the Missouri Supreme Court.  An annotated set, West's Vernon's Annotated Missouri Rules (VAMR) is shelved near Vernon's Annotated Missouri Statutes in the low shelves near the computer lab, or near other sets of rules in the reserve room.  The rules can also be found on Westlaw, LexisNexis, and online.  The Missouri state court rules include the rules of civil procedure, criminal procedure, and rules for small claims court proceedings.

There are also stand-alone publications that contain the state rules, most notably West's Missouri Court Rules - State, also shelved in the reserve room.

Online Sources

This online compilation of Missouri's Supreme Court Rules and Supreme Court Operating Rules is offered as a convenience to the public only. The rules are not considered official documents of the Supreme Court of Missouri. The official documents are the orders entered periodically by the Supreme Court to enact or modify rules. These official orders are made public as they are entered, and the orders affecting rules are posted on the Judiciary's website at: Orders/Rules.
