While the physical library will be closed, we are still here for you. You can contact us by email or chat for research help, finding a book, or to book a librarian, online or in-person.
This library redesign will focus on library spaces for student work including improved access to technology, collaborative and individual study spaces, and innovative furniture concepts that are appropriate for today’s technology needs. We are working to ensure that our new, modern library will meet the needs of our community as well as make sure your needs are met during any building closure.

Q. Where can I get a book from the library while it is closed?
A. You will still be able to request books from the library as well as the Discover@MU and MOBIUS catalogs, but you will need to select a different pick-up location. You can select any pick-up location that works best for you. The Health Sciences Library pick-up lockers will continue to be available 24/7, located in the Medical Science Building across the courtyard from the Medical Annex. Select Lottes Lockers as your pick-up location and you will receive a code in your email when it is ready. Alternatively, you can use the pick-up lockers at Ellis Library.
Q. Can I still request books not owned by the library?
A. Yes, you can still request books from other libraries to be delivered to campus. The process will remain the same: request a book from MOBIUS, select your preferred pick-up location, and you will be notified when it is ready. You will not be able to pick up items at the Health Sciences Library, but you can select any other library on campus or the pick-up lockers. The Health Sciences Library pick-up lockers, "Lottes Lockers," will be available 24/7 in the Medical Science Building. Ellis Library also has pick-up lockers.
Q. Where should I return my books?
A. Borrowed books can be returned to any of the MU Libraries on campus, as well as any UM System Libraries or MOBIUS libraries. You can use library book drops or take returns to a circulation desk. You can also email us at hslcirc@health.missouri.edu to request a book return to the book lockers.
UM System libraries consist of other campuses of the University of Missouri system (Kansas City, Rolla, and St. Louis). MOBIUS is a large group of academic libraries throughout Missouri and some surrounding states. You can check this list of MOBIUS members for participating libraries. If you aren't sure about your return, don't hesitate to ask a staff member!
A. There are several ways to renew books. You can ask at the circulation desk of any library on campus or renew items online through My Library Account. You can also access your account on the right side of the MERLIN catalog. Books can only be renewed if there are no holds, and the number of renewals is limited. Certain items, like Reserves or equipment, cannot be renewed. Learn more on the University Libraries’ webpage about renewals and overdue books.
Q. What is happening with the library’s collection of books and journals?
A. The Health Sciences Library collection is being stored off-site during the renovation. You can search for these materials here and request delivery to our lockers on the first floor of the medical sciences building or have them sent to one of the other campus libraries for pickup. Most of our recent books are available online, and so are many of our journals.
Q. Are there other libraries I can use?
Q. Where can I find a good study area?
A. There are numerous libraries and other places on campus you can go to find the best study space for you. Looking for quiet? Ellis Library has designated quiet spaces in rooms 201 and 202. Even MizzouRec has some serene study spaces, according to this Show Me Mizzou article! Looking for some background noise? Find a comfy chair in the Student Center or Memorial Union and let the hustle and bustle drown out your distractions. Need caffeine while you work? Grab some coffee and settle in at Vida Coffee (located on Hitt Street) or Starbucks in Memorial Union.

Q. Where can I reserve a study room?
A. Several libraries offer study rooms, and students from any department can reserve them. Please note each library's policies for use regarding facial coverings, food and/or drink, and supplied equipment. All libraries limit reservations to two hours, and the occupancy limits are written next to the room name on reservation forms.
You can also reserve a study room in the Student Union.
Q. Where are rooms with screen sharing monitors?
A. Ellis Library has several rooms with screen sharing monitors. Reserve these rooms on the University Libraries' study rooms webpage.
Q. Where can I go to use a public computer?
A. Ellis Library and the Engineering Library both have computers students can use! Go to the Information Commons or room 114 in Ellis Library to find available computers, or visit the Engineering Library for more options. Several libraries also have laptops that can be borrowed. Check out the equipment lending page for information on where the laptops are located and how long they can be borrowed. Please note that most laptops cannot be taken outside of their respective library. Students can also use the computer labs across campus.
Q. What about checking out other equipment?
A. MU Libraries offer various types of equipment that can be borrowed by students, staff, and faculty: Go Pros, projectors, camcorders, chargers, and more. You can see all the equipment available at other libraries on the equipment lending page.
Q. Where can I go to print or scan?
A. The following libraries have printers, scanners, and/or copiers for you to use. For directions or more information, check out the University Libraries' computing resources page.
Students can also find printers around campus.DigiPrint also offers a variety of specialty printing options for students.
Q. Where can I get research assistance?
A. Health Sciences Library staff will still be available virtually via chat or email. If you need help with a specific topic, you can contact a subject librarian to set up an appointment for more in-depth assistance. Our library website also features several easy resources to help you with research. Q. What if I'm having issues with a database?
A. First, we recommend looking at our troubleshooting guide to help resolve common issues with off-campus access. If you are still experiencing issues, contact us via phone, chat, or email. We also have a form to report issues with databases and other library resources.
Q. How do I request an Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
A. If you couldn’t find a resource in our catalog or in MOBIUS, request an ILL using ILL@MU. You will login with your MU pawprint, then select “New Requests” at the top of the page. Include as much information about the resource in the request form as you can (e.g., title, year, author(s), journal volume, page numbers).
Q. Will I be able to contact the library for help?
A. Yes! There will be various ways you can reach out to the library, such as email, text, chat, and contact forms you can fill out with specific questions. Check out our Contact Us page for a direct list of all available options.
Q. Why does the library need renovation?
A. The first and third floor of the current library space will be repurposed into offices for the hospital, leaving the main floor of the library in need of a major upgrade to make the best use of available space. With the renovation, we can build new study rooms, add more outlets, and improve our collection layout to create a variety of useful spaces for students to use. These changes will modernize the library as well as increase accessibility.
Q. What will the new library look like?
A. While we do not have a clear design this early in the planning process, we know the renovated library space to be more modern and include an array of useful study spaces for students.
