Prosecutors have a special role in the United States legal system. It is the prosecutor's job to represent not an individual client, but society itself and to work in the interest of justice, rather than a partisan victory. A prosecutor does his job when a guilty person is convicted and an innocent person goes free. This requires diligence, discretion, and sometimes restraint. The purpose of this guide is to consolidate resources that a young prosecutor can use to navigate the intertwining legal and ethical duties that come with this important job.
