Search Inside Books with Google Books and HathiTrust

Look for the Find In a Library link to locate copies of the books you find here.

When searching, use quotation marks to force Google to search for phrases instead of just words: "yellow fever epidemic of"

Google Book Search

HathiTrust includes the Google Books corpus of books, and is actively working to "open up" more books that may be in the public domain or available through open access licenses. The name comes from "hathi," which means "elephant" in Hindi - the elephant that never forgets. You can search the full text of books, even the books you can't actually read online in full text due to copyright restrictions.
