Media Equipment Restricted to Journalism Majors

Journalism Library Media Equipment Check-out Agreement Form must be signed and on file before equipment can be checked-out. The form is available at the service desk. You can sign the agreement the first time you check out equipment.

Equipment Fines

Fines for overdue reserve equipment (cameras, laptops, recorders, chargers, etc.) - $2 an hour and $10 a day with a maximum of $50.00 for each piece of equipment.  If not returned you will need to buy an exact replacement for the piece of equipment.  

If you don't replace the item your account may be blocked from checking anything else out from any library and also fined replacement costs of each piece of equipment.  In some cases if you do not respond to library staff emails about billed items you may be turned over to the Student Conduct Center.

Closed Spring Break and whenever MU cancels classes/switches to remote learning

Monday-Friday 9:00AM-5:00PM

If classes are canceled by MU, the Equipment Lab will be closed

RJI Equipment Lab Checkout Policies:

ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE RETURNED WITHIN 3 HOURS OF CHECKOUT (unless told otherwise).

If equipment is checked out within the last 3 hours of any day, the equipment MUST be returned within 30 minutes of the lab opening the next day.

 

Late fees accumulate at $2 an hour for each piece of equipment with a barcode. Late fees automatically round up to the next hour.

For example:

  • Items returned 32 minutes late will be charged for one hour.
  • Items returned 1 hour and 1 minute late will be charged for two hours.

The maximum is the replacement cost. Fees will be charged to your student account.

All fees under this new, lower rate will be collected in full with no exceptions!

 

New Emergency Policy

If you cannot physically return equipment on time due to illness, injury, or other emergency, you can arrange for someone else to return the equipment on your behalf. You MUST call or email the equipment lab to let the workers know who will return your equipment and why. You maintain full responsibility for missing/broken/late equipment.

 

No ID? … No equipment! No exceptions!
