Native American Studies: Home

About This Guide

This subject guide is designed to highlight books, online resources and local special collections related to Native American history and culture with special emphasis on Missouri tribes (Chickasaw, Illini, Ioway, Missouri, Osage, Otoe, and Quapaw).  Some resources are freely available to all, while others are restricted to MU affiliates (current students, faculty and staff).  Even the MU-only resources are available to non-affiliates if they are in an MU Libraries building, however, and most books can be lent via interlibrary loan to libraries throughout the U.S.

Native Americans of Missouri

This map shows approximate locations of Native American tribal lands in what is now Missouri.  For more detailed reconstructions from different time periods, see the Atlas of the North American Indian, available in Ellis Library (call number: E77 .W195).
