History 4972: Research Seminar in the Life & Thought of C.S. Lewis: Books

the Library Catalog Tricks

  • If looking for books about a person, use the person's name in a subject search - last name first. e.g., Lewis, C.S.
  • Adding the "Clive" to a keyword search will help make sure that C.S. Lewis' name appears as an author or subject, not just a chapter title.  Example: lewis and clive and (modern or progress* or positiv*)
  • Remember that you can limit searches to books published within a certain time period
  • If a book is unavailable (either not owned or checked out) in the MU Libraries you can request it from another library via MOBIUS.

Finding a KNOWN Book

If you know EXACTLY what book you want, use the Find a Specific Book search on the left sidebar of the MU Libraries home page.

Sample the Library Catalog Record

The information needed to locate the physical book is found in the box.  The left column shows which campus library has the book: MU Ellis.  The middle column contains the call number: PR 6023. E926 Z785 2004.  The right column tells you whether the book is on the shelf or checked out.  Not checked out means the book is available.

If a book you want is checked out, use the Search MOBIUS button in the center to expand your search to other libraries in Missouri.  You can request books from other libraries and they will be sent to you at the Circulation Desk.
