LibX for MU

LibX is a web browser add-on for Firefox (Windows, Mac).

http://libraryguides.missouri.edu/libx

After you install LibX, you will be able to search the MERLIN catalog directly from the LibX toolbar in your browser. You'll also be able to select text on any web page and search for the selected text in MU's resources (books, journal titles, article titles).

LibX also adds MU resource links directly to Google search results, Amazon book listings, and to web pages that show a book's ISBN number.

Explore the different tabs on this LibGuide to find out how to install LibX -- and what LibX can do to put MU's library resources at your fingertips!

Please ask us if you have any questions about using LibX!

Office Communicator, Microsoft Messenger and Skype

 The Office Communicator package for the Windows OS allows communication between faculty and staff via text and voice without the need to make a phone call.  In addition to instant messaging and audio communication, Communicatior also allows video communication and desktop and file sharing. Almost all librarians have Office Communicator or Microsoft Messenger (MAC OS) installed for easy communication among ET@MO liaisons, faculty and librarians.

Closely integrated with the Microsoft Office system (Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Office SharePoint sites, and others), Communicator provides presence awareness, illustrating a user's availability based on computer activity and Outlook calendar data.  Users can connect and collaborate from any location using an Internet connection.

The OCS 2007 client provides:

  • inter-campus instant messaging (IM);
  • audio- and videoconferencing;
  • desktop sharing [not available through Microsoft Messenger for MAC - use Skype]
  • the ability to transfer files via IM
  • enhanced presence management;
  • Outlook integration;
  • integration of distribution lists into the OCS contacts list;

Future upgrades may include integration between OCS and Windows Live, connecting faculty, staff, and students.

All faculty and staff are licensed to use OCS. Interested employees should contact their department's IT Professional for information or to get OCS installed.
