Finding Books

Hints for finding books about particular the history or philosophy, etc. in the MERLIN online catalog or in Worldcat:

Choose the Advanced Search so that you can limit your search to recent books
In the Advanced Search, use a word or words of your choice, e.g. LIBRAR*, on the first line. On the second line, add the terms HISTOR* OR PHILOSOPH* OR ETHIC*, and specify that one of these terms be found in the SUBJECT.

MERLIN Library Catalog
This catalog is for the MU Libraries. It can be set to search all libraries in the UM System, including the St. Louis, Kansas City and Rolla campuses.

Once you have chosen a career to investigate, check the Databases by Subject listing for databases specific to your chosen field.

Chronicle Career Library of Occupational Briefs
Contains information about hundreds of individual careers, including work performed, hours and earnings, education/training needed, employment outlook, how to get into the career, advancement, related unions and professional associations, and places for further research.
Occupational Outlook Handbook
Online version of book on Ready Reference shelf, HF5381.A1O36.Front matter contains general information about jobs in high demand, sources of education, training and financial aid, and applying for jobs. Career information includes the nature of the work, training needed, advancement prospects, specialties, job outlook over the next decade, earnings, related occupations and sources of additional information.
