Graduate Workshop 2011: Find Information while you Sleep: Citation Alerts

Citation alerts let you know when an article or author you choose is cited by a newly publiohed article. You will be sent an email every time the article or authorthat you choose is cited.

Some databases offer citation alerts. Also, some publisher offer citation alerts, but many limit the alerts to citations only from their journals. (For more information about publisher alerts, see here.) Databases may be found by searching or browsing here.

This list may not be comprehensive, but here are some databases that offer citation and author alerts.

• Google Scholar
• How to set up Google Scholar to link to MU resources
• Find the item you want then click on the "cited by _" link

  

• Click on the "create email alert" to create a citation alert for this article

• Sage Journals

• Create a free account. View the article you want, and look to the right side of the screen. Click "alert me when this article is cited."

• ScienceDirect
• more about the database
• View the article you want, and look to the right side of the screen. It will give you a list of any articles citing it. Click "view details of all _ citing articles in Scopus." This will open Scopus in a new tab where you can subscribe to the citation alert by RSS.

• Scopus

• View the article you want, and look to the right side of the screen. It will give you a list of any articles citing it and allow to choose to set up an email or RSS citation alert.
